Oh maaaaan. This one is finally DONE! I will never like watercolors. Second entire watercolor piece I've ever done..and I hope I don't have to do another soon. They are just so darn hard to manipulate! Because once you get too much pigment on an area..that's it. You're sunk. So I had to deal with a lot of those types of problems while painting this. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it though.
The eyes are pointing in different directions. Grr.
So the story behind this...THIS PAINTING IS NOT MY ORIGINAL DESIGN. I guess this clown used to be a big deal during the childhood days of the guy that commissioned me for this. Used to be on lunch boxes and stuff. And his friend used to have a poster of it. But she lost it. And it was her favorite poster too. So Morris here looked all over the internet to get her a new one, but couldn't find the image for sale ANYWHERE. Except he had one lone picture of it. So he gave that to me and told me to recreate it for her.
Which I did. In about eight hours of work. : D 11x14"
Killed me to be copying something, but at least I got great practice with watercolor! So I'd love to have some critiquing here.
This was WATERCOLOR *le gasp* It's amazing! Clowns never looked so beautiful^^ I love the eyes especially I personally like watercolors, but it is hard control the colors.

Ahhh you did it!! It's so faithful to the original! In terms of critique, I think you might need a bigger brush for the wash in the background so that smaller individual strokes don't show up. The eyes are still very soulful and the depth of colour in the collar is great. The only thing to be careful with is when you get a halo effect, like near the top of the clown's head where it meets the background colour.. That can be fixed with doing washes of lighter colours before going dark, or by using masking fluid to isolate parts you don't want to paint yet. I think you should definitely try out masking fluid and experiment a bit with it, because I think you could do some amazing things with it
Aww, thank you again, m'dear! Ya know, bigger brushes are something that I am also afraid of, but it probably would have taken a lot less time to complete some areas, instead of trying to match the tones every other second. Masking fluid? I've never heard of it or used it, but we're doing art supplies shopping in Keene today, so I could probably badger my dad about it. Haha. Thank you for the in-depth critique! You! Are! Appreciated!
